Nike and Kobe has kept the Kobe collection going as they put out the ninth edition of their shoes. In the past, numbers 1-8 have been a low cut shoe or a low mid cut shoe. Basically, they have stuck with a lower cut shoe throughout their collection and some may call it a tradition. Despite the tradition, Nike did not let that get in the way of them recreating a new idea and to go with a high top shoe that no one has seen before. Unlike usually high tops, this shoe has different texture and is higher than a normal high top would be. This shoe consists of a flyknit texture, with all different colors that are spread throughout texture. The tongue of this shoe stands out more due to the high top version of this shoe which also brings out Kobe's famous symbol and his own signature. A design like the Nike elite socks is formed on the back collar of the shoe with lettering on the top trim also like the elite sock saying, KB NINTH. Also featured on the back of this shoe are nine red marks that resemble stitches due to Kobe's injury last year tearing his achilles. To help stabilize the shoe is carbon fiber that are featured on the sides of the shoe. Also included on the carbon fiber are funfetti speckling to top off the shoe. In my opinion, there are pros and cons to this shoe. I do not like how they went to a high top and how high it actually is. Also I do not like the tongue on this shoe, I feel like it sticks out too much and that's not what people should be focusing on in my eyes. What I do like about this shoe is the symbolism of the red marks on the back representing his surgery and I like how they blended all the colors of the shoe very well. The Masterpiece will be in stores February 8, at a retail price of $225.
